ABOUT ME
I am a Brooklyn boy. Mom "told me" I would be a doctor. I went to Poly Prep, entered Brooklyn College/Downstate’s 7-year BA/MD program, and did my internal medicine residency at Bellevue. I did my pulmonary/critical care fellowship at MGH, returning to the ICU at NYU in 2000.

I was raised to value everyone and I give 100% of myself. As selfish as it is altruistic, I thrive on caring for patients and their families. My style is informal, holistic, and personal. Confident, aggressive, persistent and direct, I treat the "person," finding that "connecting" as well as providing meticulous care to the body and soul is the surest path to "success."

Teaching has been my passion. The best way for me to know "what I know" and affect so many (students, young doctors, nurses, patients, etc.), I have been continuously teaching (and learning) throughout my career. With high standards, my goal is to teach basic to complex, foster "true" understanding, imparting science and clinical skills while modeling the importance and power inherent in a true doctor-patient relationship.

Leadership was an organic by-product of my "work." As Director of the MICU more recently, I accomplished much. I am able to perceive global needs and work towards fulfilling them. We are at a crucial crossroads in medicine, and I am dedicated to helping us to find the right path.

If I could do it all over again, I would!
