TESTIMONIALS

"Dr. David Schwartz is a brilliant physician and that rare gem of a human being you hope will be there should you ever find yourself in need of help. He has run the ICU at NYU Hospital in New York City for a number of years. I have watched him on the job and have been amazed at his skill, his intelligence and loving attention to the patients. NYU is fortunate to have him; I know that if I have a loved one in a serious medical situation, I would insist that we go to NYU - in large part because of this incredible doctor and leader. Having made an Oscar-nominated film about our challenged health care system, I have seen the gamut of what Americans have had to suffer through. I have often thought of how wonderful it would be if we could clone Dr. Schwartz! As that can't happen, all of us need to continue the fight to obtain a more humane and universal health care for everyone. Dr. Schwartz is on the side of the people and the patients. With more advocates like him, we will succeed. Thank you, NYU, for providing him a phenomenal home from which to do his important work."

"My daughter, Francine, had the misfortune of going into cardiac arrest at NYU Langone outpatient area where she coded twice. Her misfortune turned to fortune when Dr. David Schwartz saved her life in the ER and became her primary physician in CCU." The newest procedures were used, and the care given was excellent. Everything done to and for her was under the direction and supervision of Dr. Schwartz. Francine could not speak due to intubation which frustrated her. Dr. Schwartz spent much time at her bedside, not only giving her medical attention, but he also just talked to her and waited patiently for her to communicate back to him in whatever way she could, always reassuring her. Spending over three weeks in Dr. Schwartz's unit, I saw how wonderfully he treated all of his patients. Observing him with his team was an education in itself. Dr. Schwartz treated everyone with respect. The staff loved him, his students loved him and his physician partners loved and respected him. His patients and their families adored him. Oh how thankful our family was not just for the superior medical care he gave our loved one, but also for the care and consideration he gave our family. He explained everything to us, consulted with us and was always there to answer any questions (even our dumb ones). When Francine was ready to be transferred to rehab, Dr. Schwartz along with his Nurse Director accompanied her to the new area and continued to be there for her wherever she was. Today, over seven years since incident, Dr. Schwartz continues to be our guardian angel. When any medical problem arises, not just for Francine, but also for our entire family, Dr. Schwartz is there for us. There is nothing we can ever do to thank him for being the very best and most caring physician, a good man and a wonderful friend. NYU Langone is so fortunate to have as fine a physician as David Schwartz on their staff and the patients are even more fortunate to have him as their physician."

"While a family member was in the MICU, we were lucky to be under the care of Dr. Schwartz. In addition to his vast medical knowledge, he is willing and unafraid to think outside the box. He asserts control over critical and stressful situations while maintaining his composure. He takes the time to explain what is happening to both the patient and the family. He shows great compassion for his patients and understands the human side of being hospitalized. He calls to check on the patient’s status even on his days off. He remains involved in the patient’s recovery beyond the stay in the MICU. He is always available to address concerns or dispense advice. The other attending physicans, consultants, fellows, residents, nurses and students combined for an excellent care team. He actively engages his residents and medical students. Morning rounds were structured and detailed. On rounds, he is able to balance the needs of the patient and family with doing bedside teaching. In conclusion, there are few superlatives that do Dr. Schwartz justice. In fact, the best endorsement I can offer is that if a loved one or I were ever in need of intensive care, I would want Dr. Schwartz to be heading the care team."

"I went to NYU with a bad case of pneumonia, and after 4 days of losing 20 pounds (down to 140) and seeing over 20 doctors (many of which are very highly regarded), they had no idea and wanted to undergo major surgery!! I was so scared then in walks Dr. Schwartz on a Sunday. A few poignant questions (not one prior doctor asked a different question) and he quickly discovered my problem. Checked for fluid around the lung, found it, and removed it. I proceeded to get dramatically better each day afterwards. Was I allowed to see Dr Schwartz again? No. NYU said I was no longer permitted to speak with him after he saved me and was the only guy I trusted (plus he made me feel like a human). So after him it went back to the worst experience of my life. The wrong meds, testing many other things when I was there for only pneumonia. I'm a healthy 30 year old! They were scaring me at the beginning asking and testing for HIV and all these things I obviously did not have. I was at NYU for a total of 10 days, and only saw Dr. Schwartz on one of them (the 4th). That one day was when I started getting much better. Each of the other 9 days, including after when I was still recovering were the worst days of my life. I look back on how lucky I am that Dr. Schwartz walked in my room that day, because the other doctors at NYU were killing me. He is a special person, who truly only cares about getting his patients better. It is a shame there are not more like him. Big thank you to Dr. David Schwartz!"

"My mother was a patient of Dr. Schwartz in the MICU last year. I could not have had a better experience. David Schwartz and his team of doctors, are incredible diagnosticians always thinking out of the box. That skill combined with his incredible level of compassion and warmth make him an exemplary physician. Dr. Schwartz exhibits tremendous empathy for his patients and their family members never losing his patience with any of my numerous questions. He walked me through all of the medical decisions being made and deciphered for me each and every test result I questioned. When I was crying and confused, not sure that my mother would survive this hospital stay, Dr. Schwartz sat me down and made sure that I understood all that was happening. The reality of the situation was not sugar coated, but was explained to me in the best possible way allowing me to make the necessary decisions and explain my mother’s condition to my family. Dr. Schwartz was accessible beyond his on call hours. He readily gave me his cell number and told me to feel comfortable calling him with any question or concern. I did and he could not have been more accommodating. My mother was transferred to another floor from MICU. When she took a turn for the worse, Dr. Schwartz came running after I called him. Dr. Schwartz made sure I understood what was going on, helped to get a chaplain to come to see me, and comforted me and my family when things were difficult. He stepped right in (working with assigned doctors) as if my mother, the patient were still under his care. I have never experienced such a wonderful group of medical professionals as the one Dr. Schwartz heads. He leads by example. Being a great doctor is not only treating the patient medically. It is understanding how to best communicate with not only the patient, but their family as well. I recommend Dr. Schwartz without any reservation."

"David took care of both my parents when they were in the hospital. Quite simply he is the smartest and most compassionate doctor that I have ever met. Not only was he my "go to" doctor but was the "go to" doctor for his colleagues. I would want him to be the doctor making the life and death decisions for me."
